The Brick Box at the Paramount will host the opening of an exhibit of manipulated Polaroids by Lowell Snowdon Klock on Friday.

Polaroid manipulation is one of a number of alternative photographic processes used by photographers. After photographing the ordinary and often mundane, Klock’s final image is achieved by manipulating its slow setting emulsion and creating unique and varied results. This technique blurs the lines of traditional photography. Delineation is diffused and often expresses more of a feeling rather than structured composition.

“One has no idea where this will go and where to start,” Klock said in a release announcing the event. “This mystery is what makes the process so enjoyable and addicting.”

This particular photographic form is significant because it can no longer be done. For years Klock scoured yard sales and eBay to find old SX70 cameras.

“I purchased Time Zero/SX70 film by the case,” he said in the release. “However the film is no longer made, though, there are efforts under way to reproduce the film and some photographers have experimented using other Polaroid films.”

The opening reception coincides with the Friday Art Hop from 5 to 8 p.m.

This exhibit runs through Tuesday, Dec. 8. The Brick Box is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and during Paramount Theater performances. For further information, call Beth Miller at 235-2734 or Wendy Fannin at 235-2412.
