Matthew Tuscano, widely known about town as "Tusky," grew up on Lake Bomoseen and manages the band Twiddle. Matt also spends many nights in Rutland trolling for live music. With his hands in virtually all aspects of the scene -- from management to booking to merchandise, recruiting, and lugging equipment -- his love of the music business behind the scenes stems from a lifelong love of rocking 'n' rolling. Right now, on a damp Friday night, Lucid is rocking Sidelines in downtown Rutland.  The show kicked off at 10 p.m., and I’m on my way, with my dancing shoes. These guys have got a little bit of everything —  some fine rock ‘n’ roll, with a nice jazzy sax that will lift your feet off the dance floor.

On Saturday, head up the golden road to Killington and check out the Kind Buds, who are kicking off the 12th annual Sunshine Daydream Festival, a tribute to the Grateful Dead. The Buds keep the Dead alive in their gigs throughout New England. I have seen this acoustic pair play a few times, and their sugar harmonies and sweet strumming have gained them respect within the Dead-loving community. They played a great show at Gathering of the Vibes … way cool!

The festival is free and will feature bands playing Grateful Dead covers during the day from 11-5 p.m., with the Buds playing at noon, and the headliners, Playin’ Dead, rocking two sets to close. Check out the drum circles and tie-dying, and get your shakedown on!

Want to check out a new artist, an awesome band, or experience a cool venue? Give Tusky your time.
