What We've got to Work With: Ellen Page (Hard Candy), Michael Cera (Superbad), Jennifer Garner (Electra), Jason Bateman (Arrested Development)
Directed by: Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking)
Written by: Diablo Cody (She has a cool name)
What they put together: It's been over a year since 'Little Miss Sunshine' hit the big screen, and I think the world got a little brighter that day. But it's about time a new indie-based comedy stepped up to the plate to warm our hearts in a new way. Could 'Juno' be that movie?

Ellen Page of Juno It’s been over a year since ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ hit the big screen, and I think the world got a little brighter that day. But it’s about time a new indie-based comedy stepped up to the plate to warm our hearts in a new way. Could ‘Juno’ be that movie?

It stars Ellen Page, who hasn’t really be given the best acting path as far as films go. She first caught my eye back in 2001 on the Canadian show ‘Trailer Park Boys’ and until ‘Juno,’ I haven’t been impressed with her choices in film. But let me assure you, if Ellen Page did not take the lead role in this one, it would have been a completely different film. She tears up the screen as Juno MacGuff, the very likable rebel girl in her everyday 16-year-old life. All seems to be going normal and mundane until she realizes that she is indeed pregnant with the child of her best friend Paulie Bleeker.

The lovable Bleeker is played by Michael Cera who, in every movie or show I’ve seen him in, plays the timid, gentle, not-too-smooth smart kid who has some kind of weirdness about him, and Juno is no different… which is a good thing.

So, where was I?

Oh, yes. Juno decides she cannot abort, nor is she old enough to raise a child, so she decides to give the baby to a family who needs a child, and luckily she comes across the Lorings, played by Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner. Everything is set in motion and running smoothly, but does Mark Loring want a baby as much as his wife Vanessa? …hmmmmm… I smell a conflict.

Overall ‘Juno’ is a PG-13 type Family Movie despite some mature content. It’s cute and you’ll leave the theater feeling about the same way as you did when you left ‘Little Miss Sunshine.’ Parts of the film begin to feel repetitious and pretentious, but its all in good fun and I just wanted to boost my vocabulary.

This is a very deep and heartwarming film that can essentially be viewed by… well anyone, except maybe infants and youngsters, unless you feel like breaking the “where babies come from” speech out.

If you are still shaky about seeing it, keep in mind, EVERYONE likes this movie. Just letting you know.
