BARRE – Ariel Zevon is cooking dinner every Friday night and brunch every Sunday morning. And your family is invited.
On the buffet table at LACE (Local Agricultural Community Exchange), Zevon’s café and community center, might be meatloaf, roasted turkey, lasagna or chicken wings – one dish each Friday night with sides, coffee, tea, juice, milk and dessert – and it’s all you can eat.
The Friday night dinners are a relatively new venture for Zevon, who adds that she’s “still in the experimental stage” in crafting the concept.

The Subdudes are at the Paramount on Saturday with their New Orleans influenced sound. I checked out a live recording on their Web site and they do justice to their roots. This should be another example of the Paramount bringing great shows here to Rutland. Show your support and take in the show.
Rick Redington will be up in Rochester this Saturday at Seasoned Books & Bakery at 6:30 p.m. and then Sunday at Jax in Killington for his regular gig there.

Want to figure out whether the sunscreen you’re using is really protecting you from sunburn, aging skin or maybe even skin cancer?
The Environmental Working Group has done the work for you. In a new evaluation, posted on its Web site — www.ewg.org/sunscreen — the group, a nonprofit research organization based in Washington, rates 700 sunscreens.
Based on nearly 400 studies of the 17 sunscreen chemicals approved for use in the United States, and an analysis of sunscreen ingredient toxicity linked to 60 industry and government databases on chemical hazards, EWG rates sunscreens for UVA protection, how stable the product is in the sun, and potential health hazards of the product’s ingredients.
Hold on there. Health hazards? How can a product formulated to protect you hurt you?
