Matthew Tuscano, widely known about town as "Tusky," grew up on Lake Bomoseen and manages the band Twiddle. Matt also spends many nights in Rutland trolling for live music. With his hands in virtually all aspects of the scene -- from management to booking to merchandise, recruiting, and lugging equipment -- his love of the music business behind the scenes stems from a lifelong love of rocking 'n' rolling. Tusky Time Vermont Music blogTonight afrobeat rockers Toubab Krewe will be bringing their slamming, West African fusion beats to Higher Ground. This North Carolina instrumental five-piece has been ripping it up all over the country playing at most of the major festivals. The band is on the heels of releasing their second album.

I saw them at Summercamp music festival last year in Chillicothe, Ill., and I can see why their show was referred to by some as the best of the weekend. Toubab Krewe developed their unique sound from extensive travelling through Mali, Guinea and the Ivory Coast, and they use some pretty interesting instruments to fill their sound, like the harp-like kora and kamelengoni, the Malian horsehair fiddle, and a bevy of bouncing African percussion.

Hey, it’s Friday night, so get up to South Burlington and get dancing! Tickets are $13 day of show, with doors at 8 p.m., show at 8:30 p.m.

Want to check out a new artist, an awesome band, or experience a cool venue? Give Tusky your time.
